Bio: Jessica Myers has an MFA in Creative Writing from Chatham University.  Her poetry has appeared in Decomposition Magazine, Asphodel Madness, Five Fishes Journal Writer’s Bloc and Superficial Flesh. Again, by Jessica Myers

Again,

I am mixing words into my martini—
words lightly tinted with a confused devotion.
These words I haven’t said are tiny prayers.

I mix a glass for me on a friend’s brown kitchen counter.
And, after I’ve taken a power sip, I mix one for you, too.
Your eyes follow my hands, a hazy memory of our times before.

When we danced as new lovers, our warm breath barely touched.
When we sang drunken songs together on streets
that tried to not let us forget what we meant to each other then.

But those streets did let us forget,
I realize as we stand in this group photograph,
my arm in a strained drape across your shoulders.

You are an unfamiliar place now,
a memory I had no right to conjure.
